Community Involvement
We support our local communities through regular product and financial donations, volunteering, sponsorships of youth athletic teams and more. Our philanthropic efforts include the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (US) in support of breast cancer research, a partnership with Pet Partners that promotes animal welfare and the human-animal bond, and community cleanup during National Green Select Day.
Here is a partial list of the many well-deserving organizations to which we have contributed:
- HAVIN Inc.
- The Progressive Workshop
- ICAAP
- Four Footed Friends
- ARC Manor
- Lifesteps
- American Cancer Society-Daffodil Days
- The United Way
- Indiana Basketball Boosters
Furniture World Carpet One’s founder, Sandy Cooperman (pictured above in his beloved captain's hat), started the Furniture World Education Fund with the Armstrong County Foundation. The interest earned each year is spent on worthy projects within the County School System. Upon Sandy’s passing in November of 2009, additional contributions were added to this fund in his memory.
Sandy's lifelong devotion was to mentoring youth and providing opportunities for success. He enthusiastically
volunteered for Junior Achievement for 12 years by teaching an Economics class each week at Ford City High School.
In Kittanning, Gary and Patty W. repeated their annual Santa Claus and Elf visits. This takes 5-6 days as they travel to Kittanning Care, The YMCA, The Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County, The Dairy Queen and to the home of a new “adopted” family each year.
Candy and gifts are distributed and everyone has a thrilling experience. Donations for the gifts are from our Kittanning staff in lieu of a store gift exchange, The “Over the Hill” gang and Gary’s personal contribution.
This past Christmas season, in lieu of a gift exchange, our Indiana staff donated funds for the purchase of food to be distributed by the Salvation Army. With the funds we were able to supply 26 complete Holiday dinners including Turkey, Stuffing, Ham, Potatoes, Pie, and More! Mary and Bernadette did the research for the best buys, went shopping and delivered it all to the Salvation Army.
Furniture World Carpet One recently awarded new carpet and installation services to the St. Bernard's Library as part of our Make a Difference Day project.
